Snohomish County's National Night Out set for Aug. 5 at Willis Tucker Park

Jul 18, 2014

Join your neighbors for crime-prevention tips and fun during this year’s Snohomish County National Night Out Against Crime from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, at Willis Tucker Community Park in Snohomish.

This annual free event features emergency vehicles, booths with safety tips and information, and local law enforcement personnel. The event also offers kids’ games and activities, live music, and free hot dogs, snow cones and corn on the cob.

“This is a great activity for our community,” said Snohomish County Executive John Lovick. “It gives people the chance to learn how law enforcement is working to improve their neighborhood and what they can do to keep themselves and their families safe.”

Snohomish County’s Department of Emergency Management, Emergency 911, and public safety communications and dispatch agencies SNOCOM and SNOPAC will host informational booths at National Night Out.

The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, Mill Creek Police Department, and Fire Districts 1 and 7 will have emergency vehicles and personnel onsite with crime-prevention information.

Many nonprofits, such as United Way, Domestic Violence Services, and Victim Support Services, will also be available with handouts and information.

“Connecting with neighbors is one of the community’s most powerful crime-fighting tools,” said Sheriff Ty Trenary.

“Countless surveys show that when homeowners know their neighbors, they say they are more likely to report something suspicious and are confident their neighbors will do the same. Connected communities are safer communities.”

National Night Out is sponsored by the Snohomish County Executive Office in partnership with the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, the Snohomish County Parks & Recreation Department, local police departments and local nonprofits.

Willis Tucker Community Park is located at 6705 Puget Park Dr. in Snohomish. For more information about National Night Out, contact Linda Carl at 425-388-3643.
