Nov 20, 2017

At its regular business meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 7, the Board of Health officially named Jefferson Ketchel as administrator of the Snohomish Health District. Ketchel had been serving as interim administrator since April 1.

“The board completed a thorough recruitment process to assure the best candidate was selected for this critical role,” said Adrienne Fraley-Monillas, current chair of the Board of Health and an Edmonds City councilmember.

“It was clear through our search that Jeff is the best person for the job, and we couldn’t be more pleased. He has a passion not just for public health, but this agency and the people of Snohomish County. Jeff has the Board’s full support and confidence as we continue moving the Health District forward as the community’s chief health strategist.”

Ketchel joined the Snohomish Health District as the environmental health director in July 2015. Prior to that, he served as administrator of the Grant County Health District for five years following 15 years in environmental health at Public Health – Seattle & King County.

Ketchel is also a past president of the Washington State Association of Local Public Health Officials and current legislative committee co-chair.

“It is a tremendous honor to be selected as administrator,” Ketchel said. “I am blessed to work with talented and dedicated public health professionals at the Snohomish Health District, and am eager to continue working with them and others building a healthy Snohomish County for all.”

The roles of administrator and health officer were previously combined in one director position held by Gary Goldbaum. The board split those roles following Dr. Goldbaum’s retirement on March 31.

The administrator role now serves as chief executive officer for the agency. As previously reported, Mark Beatty was hired as the Health District’s new health officer on Sept.18.

Following Ketchel’s appointment, Kevin Plemel was named director of Environmental Health. Plemel has been with the Snohomish Health District since 1987, and has been serving as acting director since April 1.

The Snohomish Health District works for a safer and healthier community through disease prevention, health promotion, and protection from environmental threats. To read more about the District and for important health information, visit www.snohd.org.
