Speedway fire causes traffic delays

Last Thursday, Feb. 8, a fire at Mike’s Performance auto repair shop near Mukilteo Speedway and Beverly Park Road caused traffic delays for roughly three hours.

According to Leslie Hynes, a public information officer for South Snohomish County Fire and Rescue, the fire was reported just after 5 a.m.

“Fire was in an auto shop located off the highway behind other buildings – not too visible from the road,” Hynes said. “It was contained to an office area and a bedroom in the single-story auto repair building. The fire did not extend to the auto repair area of the building. No one was inside the building at the time of the fire and no one was injured.”

Hynes said the estimated cost of damages is around $50,000 and the cause of the fire is still under investigation by Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office.

Hynes said firefighters from around the area responded quickly.

“Firefighters from South County Fire, Mukilteo, Everett and Snohomish County Fire District 7 responded and had the fire under control in about 20 minutes,” Hynes said.

“The northbound lanes of the speedway were closed while fire crews were fighting the fire. Southbound lanes remained open during the incident. One northbound lane reopened around 6:20 a.m. All lanes reopened around 8 a.m.”
