Feb 07, 2018

On Friday, Feb. 2, at approximately 12:45 p.m., Mukilteo police officers responded to the 1000 block of 3rd Street for a report of a package theft that had just occurred.

The subject fled the area prior to police arrival.

A local resident, who observed the theft, was able to provide a detailed description of the suspect to the responding officers.

The officers quickly conducted a search of the area, which resulted in the person being located in the 700 block of 5th Street.

The suspect, a 29-year-old female from Langley, was arrested and booked into the Snohomish County Jail for a felony warrant and theft charges.

The witness observed the theft after observing the suspect take a package from the porch of a residence on the 1000 block of 3rd Street.

After calling 911, the resident continued to watch the activities and movements of the suspect while giving updates to the 911 dispatcher.

Mukilteo officers were then able to respond to specific areas, which led them to the 700 block of 5th Street, where a subject matching the description was located and arrested.

“The proactive effort of this resident was vital in assisting our officers in locating the suspect. This is a great example of the importance of our police-community partnership that is so valuable in keeping our community safe”, said Police Chief Cheol Kang.

That particular neighborhood is an active participant of the police department’s Neighborhood Block Watch Program.

“I just wanted to take a moment to acknowledge and thank the efforts of an ‘Old Town’ resident who was instrumental in identifying a package theft suspect today,” Mukilteo Police Department’s Myron Travis said. “He noticed the theft from his home and his proactive effort led officers to the suspect.”
