Teachers ratify new salary agreement

Teachers in Mukilteo have officially received their pay raises as they ratified their new salary agreement.

Members of the Mukilteo Education Association (MEA) ratified the new salaries at their Aug. 29 general membership meeting.

MEA president Dana Wiebe was happy to see the salaries get approved, so teachers can continue working in Mukilteo.

“The bargaining team was always cognizant of Washington's teacher shortage, and we knew that if the district didn't pay Mukilteo teachers more competitive salaries, they would leave our schools for other districts or even other professions,” Wiebe said “We think Mukilteo students deserve great teachers, and that requires competitive pay.”

According to Wiebe, the new agreement had overwhelming support from MEA members.

It was approved by 84 percent of MEA members with 530 voting to accept the agreement, and 98 voting to reject it.
