A new vegan restaurant, Sage and Cinder, will be holding its Grand Opening Celebration on Friday, Sept. 7 from 3 to 10 p.m. in Mukilteo, the same weekend as the Mukilteo Lighthouse Festival.

Sage and Cinder offers seasonal, farm-to-fork, vegan small plates and desserts as well as vegan craft cocktails, wine, beer and hard cider. Many items are local, organic and gluten-free.

“At Sage and Cinder, we want people to have an incredible experience from the minute they walk in the door,” said the owner, Cynthia Hesslewood. “Whether you are vegan or not, we can’t wait to share how delicious plant-based eating can truly be. Add a gorgeous craft cocktail to your meal and take in the stunning water view to create a really memorable moment.”

At Sage and Cinder, you can expect vegan small plates made with seasonal ingredients from local farms such as:

  • Tofu, beetroot and avocado tartare with marinated cucumbers and black sesame seeds.
  • Eggplant zucchini stack layered with cashew ricotta, a pickled garlic mushroom and spinach duxelle topped with brava sauce and charred sage.
  • Stuffed baked pears with cashew blue cheese, port wine reduction on grilled fennel bulb and rainbow carrots.

“I am passionate about vegan food because I want to live in a way that does as little harm as possible to animals and our planet,” said Hesslewood. “It has been my dream to open a vegan restaurant up North that will be more accessible to people outside of Seattle and when the perfect spot in downtown Mukilteo was available, I jumped at the chance.”

Sage and Cinder will be open for normal business hours on Thursday, Sept. 6 from 3 to 10 p.m., but the Grand Opening celebration will be held the next day on Sept. 7 from 3 to 10  p.m.. Specials on bottles of wine and cocktails will be available and a portion of the proceeds from this event will be donated to the Orca Conservancy.

Sage and Cider is located at 613 5th Street in Mukilteo. They are open Tuesday through Friday from 3 to 10 p.m., Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sundays 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Their happy hour is 3 to 6 p.m., and they offer a weekend brunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
