Waste Management taking over service for all of Mukilteo soon

Jul 17, 2019

Beginning Sept. 1, Waste Management will provide collection services to all residents and businesses in Mukilteo.

Residents and businesses in north Mukilteo who are current Rubatino customers will transition to Waste Management in mid- to late-August.

“Garbage collection is a basic service that keeps our community clean and protects public health, and this new contract will allow for easier recycling and composting, as well,” Mukilteo Mayor Jennifer Gregerson said. “This helps us reduce our waste stream and recycle organic materials instead of sending it all to be buried in a landfill.”

Service Transition Timeline

The week of Aug. 5, Waste Management will mail residential customers a new services packet; commercial and multifamily unit customers will be visited by Waste Management representatives on site to discuss the transition from Rubatino.

The City is inviting all residents and business owners to attend National Night Out at the Mukilteo YMCA from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 6 to learn more about the enhanced services for all residents and businesses.

The week of Aug. 19, new gray garbage, blue recycling, and green yard waste carts will be delivered to residences.

Rubatino has shared customer information with Waste Management, and Waste Management will deliver the appropriate cart(s); business customers will have their large containers changed out as well.

Service to all Mukilteo begins on Sept. 1.

Current Waste Management customers will continue to have garbage/recycling/yard waste pickup on Monday; new customers in north Mukilteo will have their weekly pick up on Thursday, beginning Sept. 5.

The City wants residents and businesses to make sure they are not using the new Waste Management carts until after Sept. 1; Rubatino may not pick up your garbage if it is in a Waste Management cart.
