For the month of August, Gallery North’s featured show is “Western Stories,” a colorful collection of original acrylic paintings by JR (Janet) Hawse. In her show, Hawse brings to life elements of the West as seen through the eyes of a storyteller. Her subjects include wildlife, pioneer times, landscapes, and portraiture of the Old West.

Hawse, a US Navy veteran, resides locally and specializes in wildlife and animal portraiture as well as landscape paintings. Her work has been in numerous exhibitions, won awards, and is included in private collections here and internationally. Hawse is a long-time member of the Portrait Society of America, Seattle Co-Arts, and Gallery North.

“Inspiration comes to me from many places, but the idea of telling a story with a painting is the most alluring part of creating for me,” Hawse said. “I enjoy bringing together elements that speak to the viewer, invite them to enter into the story and explore.”

Hawse also is a lampwork hot glass artist. She creates a variety of unique jewelry pieces using glass beads she creates with her torch in her studio. Many of these pieces will also be available for viewing and sale.

The public is invited to meet the artist at her reception on Sunday, Aug. 5 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Gallery North and at the Edmonds Art Walk on Thursday, Aug. 16 from 5 to 8 p.m.

Gallery North is located at 401 Main Street, Edmonds, Washington and is open seven days a week. For further information please visit the Galley North website at www.GalleryNorthEdmonds.comor contact Gallery North at 425-774-0946.
